Welcome to July, lovelies!

As you know, if you follow me on any of my social media platforms, I am starting the #30Lippiesfor30Days challenge today. Yes, I’m excited too! So excited in fact, that I got up this morning and decided to make a lip scrub that I will be using this month for the challenge.

If you don’t know what #30Lippiesfor30Days is all about…

I have no idea where you’ve been. Basically, as I said on facebook, instagram, twitter, I am doing a challenge where I will be wearing a different lipstick every day this month. Why am I doing this? Well, because I want to. No other reason really. You may or may not already know how in love with lipsticks I am. Since my last post, my lipstick collection has grown much and I thought this would be a great way to show off what I have.

As is common with me, I first said I would do this in passing when talking to a friend. But, the more I thought about it, the more I wanted to do it. So, here we are – Day one of the #30Lippiesfor30Days challenge ^_^

And now, to the lip scrub!

It occurred to me I should probably have a lip balm and scrub to use this month as I will be using a lot of lipstick. A majority of my lip products are matte, so taking them off is a problem. Even after I use oil to wipe it off, I still have flecks of the lipstick or whatever left on my lips.

I decided a lip scrub would be better because I can use it to remove the stubborn flecks of lipstick and keep my lips moisturized and supple during the #30Lippiesfor30Days challenge.  I used some items I found around the house to make my lip scrub.

what I used to make the lip scrub

First, I scooped two small portions of Vaseline into the cup with the sugar. I tried to mix it with the spoon, but ended up using my hands instead. Now, my palms are just as silky smooth as I hope my lips will be at the end of the month ^_^

It looks a little choppy, but it’s fine

After making sure the sugar and vaseline combined properly, I added a little bit of the Mary Kay lip gloss. I used a tiny portion because it’s actually my mum’s and I don’t have time for long story. I used this gloss because it’s supposed to be packed full of good stuff for the lips. Fun Fact: My mum has a very deep love for Mary Kay products. She’s used products from the brand since I was a wee little girl.

The lip gloss acts as a sort of binding agent and the mixture isn’t so clumpy anymore. There’s a little bit of shine in it as well, but you can’t really see it because terrible lighting in my pictures (sorry). I wanted my lip scrub to have some color, so I added another lip gloss to the mix. I’ve had this one for about four years and never really use it, so it was beyond glad to have a purpose.

As far as measure is concerned, it’s dependent on what you want the texture of your scrub to be. Use more gloss if you want a creamier scrub, and more sugar if you want it a bit more coarse/grainy. Mixed everything with a spoon until it was all fully blended and just the right texture I wanted. Finally, I scooped it all into the container for storage.

As excited as I am, I have to admit I’m a little sad. This particular lip scrub isn’t edible as I used ready-made products as opposed to natural ones. Either way, I tried a little bit of it, and it seems to work fine so, yay! Also, find it in your heart to forgive the not-so-clear pictures. I left my camera in Lagos and am currently working with limited resources.

So, tell me…

Have you ever considered making your own beauty products? What did you (try to) make? How did it go? Are you as excited about the #30Lippiesfor30Days challenge as I am? What colours would you like to see me wear this month? I’d like to read all your thoughts, so don’t hold back. Don’t forget to follow the challenge on my social media platforms. Peace, love, and Ribena x.
