On Day 3 of the Heineken Lagos Fashion and Design Week, 2016, Mai Atafo closed the show with his ‘Weddings by Mai’ collection. I mean, he literally closed the show; Finished the thing, and wrapped it up nicely.
When the Mai Atofo collection started showing on the third day of the 2016 Heineken Lagos Fashion and Design Week, I wasn’t entirely moved because suits. There’s only so much you can do to a man’s suit, you know? So I was really just waiting for the show to be over. I got a little more interested when the bridesmaid dresses started to some out. Nothing too ghen ghen there either, but the dresses were not suits.
I’ll give it to Mai Atafo though; this guy really knows how important mood is when viewing a collection. Of course the HKLFDW organisers had already set up the lighting. But dude took it a step further and had live violins playing as the models swayed down the runway. At the last lineup, when we thought it was over, Kaliné came out unto the runway in one of Mai’s pieces, stepped behind the keyboard and started playing and singing. I was shook.
And then this beauty came out in a gorgeous wedding gown that could only be Mai Atafo
My whole soul just started to scream “YAAASSSSS”. I had no idea how ready I was until I watched her walk down the
aisle runway. And then the rest followed.
All the detailing in the dresses, the silhouettes, the trains, really jut had me wanting to get married. I’m not even going to lie. And I loved the pants and jumpsuit options. When I was in secondary school, I used to say I would wear trouser to get married, and now I absolutely will. The black dresses were so pretty as well. I was still gushing over these ones when the last dress came out. This one was just majestic. I can’t talk too much.
Mai Atafo was hands down my favorite this year. I don’t think I’ve ever been this excited about wedding dresses before. Which of these dresses are you loving?
Remember; If you want to see more pictures, I started a thread on twitter, and they’ll be up on my tumblr soon as well!
